In this day and age penny pinching has become a sad must. With the current issues of Covid-19 and the restrictions it brings to our local businesses, it is needless to say a lot of us are struggling. Whether you have been furloughed, or own a business at this time.
As I’ve previously discussed in a previous blog post, the Covid restrictions of 2020 has had a massive impact on the hospitality industry - (blog post; https://thatgoodfoodblog.blogspot.com/2020/10/the-impact-covid-19-is-having-on.html). With many restaurants and bars struggling to stay afloat and survive restrictions to their business. This effect is additionally affecting those employed at these businesses, with 81% of hospitality staff being furloughed during this time (foodfoundation.org,uk).
This is why it is so important now more than ever to support your local cafes, restaurants, bars and hotels. These businesses more than likely had only just scrapped by, surviving the first lockdown to then be met later in the year with further - necessary - restrictions. These restrictions meant only takeaway operations, with no seating available. It is important to note how challenging this is for those businesses who do not have the means to continue operating under these circumstances. Meaning these business face full closure with no profit income.
So support locally, instead of a McDonalds - opt for the family-run chip shop down the street. Fancy a pizza? Try out the town pizza place and avoid Dominoes. Even try the cafe you have drove past so many times but never tried. These places need help far more help than the well-known profitable chains do. For some places, this kind of interest will mean the difference between being on the brink of closing.
We are all struggling during this trying time, so support locally and help out!
